In the Keyboards and Layouts directory, users can edit existing keyboard layouts and create new ones.

The properties of keyboard types are pre-installed and cannot be edited.
Below is the view of the Keyboard Layout Page:
The Inspector window for editing a keyboard layout includes the following group properties:

Creating a Keyboard Layout
To create a keyboard layout, first add an empty template in standard fashion, then assign objects and symbols to individual keys.
Keyboard keys can operate in two modes:
- Standard Mode: Pressing a key selects the assigned object.
- Text Input Mode: Pressing a key outputs the assigned character (or alternatively, an alternate character).
If a key is linked to an object type called "Function Key," the operation associated with that function key executes. Some function keys simultaneously trigger both a regular operation and an alternate operation.
To enter keyboard layout editing mode, select it and choose Edit Layout from the pop-up menu or double-click with the left mouse button.
The Layout Name window will appear on the screen.
You can assign an object to a key by dragging it from the directory. Alternatively, you may use the command Assign Object available via the pop-up menu (“Ins” key, toolbar button or sequentially fill in the fields Object Type and Key Object). After this action, the Select Object Type window opens.
Choose which type of object should be assigned to the key from the provided list. Then highlight the designated object in the corresponding dictionary (in the Items area of the window) and click OK, or simply double-click the selected object using the left mouse button.
Next, fill in the key's properties in the Inspector section as follows:
Main
Name: If the checkbox is checked, the entered name will be displayed on the button. Otherwise, the object's name from its dictionary will be shown.
Alt. Name: This field allows entering a button label in the 'Alternative Language' mode. The Alt. Name flag works similarly to the regular Name flag.
Other
MainChar: Main Character output when pressing the key in 'Text' mode (selected key, property value: 'z'). If the MainChar flag isn't set in the keyboard settings, no primary symbol will be produced upon key press.
AltChar: Alternative symbol (selected key, value 'я'). If the AltChar flag isn’t enabled in the keyboard settings, no alternative symbol will be generated upon key press.
Object Type: Object type selected when clicking the key in 'Choose Object' mode. In Figure 531, the chosen object is Discount/Markup.
Alt. Object Type: Object type associated with the element, selected when simultaneously pressing the key along with the ALT key.
Object: Selected object according to the described key in 'Choose Objects' mode. In Figure 531, the chosen object is Seat "U".
Alt. Object: An object linked to the element, accessible through the described key pressed together with the ALT key.
Visual Type
Mode: Mode of representing objects on keys — either caption or image.
Background Color: Key background color. If unchecked, the background color will follow the object’s property value (group Visual Type, Background Color property).
Image: Only applicable if the object representation mode is set to ‘image’. Image displayed on the key. By default, matches the object’s image.
Text Color: Applicable only if the object representation mode is set to 'caption'. Font color used for displaying the object name.
When editing a keyboard layout, the following buttons on the toolbar can be used:
- Remove all objects from the keyboard.
- Undo unsaved actions.
- Save the current layout to a file with the extension ".dat."
- Load a previously saved layout from a ".dat" file.
- Print the current layout.
- Update key labels according to object names in the directory of objects (applies to both Name and Alt Name of an object unless overridden by specific settings for each key).
- Save configuration settings for this particular layout.
- Assign an object to a key.
- Create an "empty" object.
- Zoom in on the keyboard view.
- Zoom out of the keyboard view.
- - Unassign an object from a key.
