After creating a discount or markup, it must be assigned usage rules:
- Automatically
- Allow
- Restrict.
If no specific rule has been selected for a discount or markup, by default it is considered allowed to be used.

Restrictions on Automatic Discounts
- The effect of the Automatically and Restrict rules is overridden by an assigned Allow rule
- A rule cannot be applied to discounts or markups with application area set On Dish (menu item) or On Seat
- For discounts and markups with active Changeable Value setting, the value of the discount cannot be changed. It will be calculated based on the used Detail Level of the discount or markup. Its value can only be modified during manual application
- Automatically rule assigns a discount with lower code among two non-freely combinable discounts i.e., those without activated Combine Any option
- An Automatically-appointed discount works only within packages where automatic assignment rules apply, hence manually assigned discount values may differ
Manual Discount Restrictions
- If the setting Restrict Manual is active for a discount or markup, it cannot be manually assigned at the cash register by any employees regardless of usage rules.
